A reactor at the San Onofre Nuclear Plant remained shut down Wednesday morning because of a possible leak.

The potential leak was reported about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in one of the steam generator tubes of Unit 3, according to a news release from Southern California Edison.

Edison Spokesman Gil Alexander said the sensors detected a leak of water from a closed loop used as part of the overall generator.

“The potential leak poses no imminent danger to the public or plant workers,” the utility company said in its statement. “There has been no release to the atmosphere.”

Unit No. 2 at San Onofre was already offline for maintenance and refueling, but Edison said the shutdown of No. 3 would not affect the supply of electricity to customers.
