Firefighters rescue three at Tablerock Beach

Firefighters rappelled down a cliff to rescue three people trapped between the cove and the incoming tide Wednesday night at Tablerock Beach in South Laguna.

Laguna Beach firefighters received a medical emergency call at 8:55 p.m. from Ti Amo Ristorante.

Firefighters found a woman and two men in their early 20s, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse.

The three adults were trapped at the bottom of a steep cliff.

Starving sea lions saved

Dehydrated and starving sea lions pups are washing up along the Orange County coast, according to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center.

The center has taken in 27 pups, most between 6 and 7 months old, for rehydration and nourishment since mid-December. Eleven of the pups survived, and nine are in critical condition.

According to Kirsten Sedlick, an animal care supervisor and educational coordinator for the center, many of the young sea lions they are treating are in stage three of starvation.

A program to reduce or stop the tremors of Parkinson’s Disease safely will begin March 1 at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach.

Parkinson’s Disease is the best known of the movement disorders to be treated by a surgical procedure that is performed in large academic medical centers, but rarely in community hospitals, according to Mission officials.

“Mission Hospital is known nationally, even internationally, for its neuro-science program, which includes treatment of strokes and traumatic brain injuries,” said Vice President of Operations Michael Beck. “A piece of that is the Movement Disorder Program, which will complement services on the Mission Viejo campus.
