A touch of world spirit

Ninth-grader Max Alaghband gets into the spirit of upcoming Sage Hill Multicultural Fair by having the flags of Iran, left, and Mexico, painted on his cheeks during lunchtime. The ninth annual fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and includes world music, international food and entertainment for all ages.

PHOTO: A place in the sun

A California sea lion named Pablo, rests in the sun while receiving much needed rest and rehab at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. According to center officials, many sea lions that have arrived at the center  in critical condition.  Volunteers are working to nurse the sea lions back to health and have seen progress with many, such as Pablo.

Second-grader Marco Castrejon sprints to tag a classmate as other second- and third-graders train for the O.C. Marathon’s Kids Run The O.C., at Killybrooke Elementary School in Costa Mesa.

The kids are completing their “marathon” by running 25.2 miles over ten weeks  and then complete the last mile in the actual marathon. The O.C. Marathon is May 1.
