A man was in the hospital Tuesday after being shot by an Orange County deputy in San Clemente, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies made what began as a routine traffic stop at 4:45 a.m. near San Clemente High School, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.
