Simpson to have send-off

Brett Simpson

Huntington Beach native Brett Simpson will have a send-off Feb. 19, celebrating his qualification for this year’s Assn. of Surfing Professionals World Tour.

The event will is from 5 to 7 p.m. at Huntington Surf and Sport. Simpson, the 2009 U.S. Open of Surfing champion, will be on-hand, along with other Hurley riders. A film will be shown documenting Simpson’s road to the ASP. Also, Huntington Beach Mayor Cathy Green will issue Simpson a city proclamation commending him for his surfing excellence.

The event, which will feature giveaways to fans, will be just hours before Simpson flies to Australia for his first ASP World Tour event.
