Couples, Pavin, Azinger commit to Toshiba Classic

Champions Tour newcomers Fred Couples, Corey Pavin and Paul Azinger have committed to the Toshiba Classic, March 1-7 at Newport Beach Country Club.

Couples, who won the 1992 Masters, is a 15-time PGA Tour winner. He splits his time between the PGA and Champion Tours.

In 2009, he tied for third at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club and the Shell Houston Open and tied for fifth at the Wyndham Championship.

Pavin, the 1995 U.S. Open champ, is also a 15-time PGA Tour winner. he posted four top-20 finishes last year, including a tie for 19th at the PGA Championship.

Azinger, who won the PGA Championship in 1993, is a 12-time PGA Tour winner.

The $1.7-million Toshiba Classic awards a $255,000 winner’s check and will be televised on the Golf Channel on March 5 from 3:30-5:30 (PST) and March 6 and March 7 from 3:30-6 p.m.
