Marina Coach Roger Holmes

Marina High boys’ basketball Coach Roger Holmes announced via e-mail that he will step down at the end of this season.

Holmes has been coaching the Vikings for 16 years. His son, Brendan, a senior guard for Marina, will graduate this year and attend Dominican University. His daughter, Kayla, will start high school next year.

“Now is the time to step aside and just concentrate on our family 100%,” Roger Holmes wrote in the e-mail.

Holmes is in his 31st year of coaching overall. He has led the Vikings to a CIF finals and a CIF semifinals appearance during his time at Marina. The Vikings set the national record for three-pointers made in a season, 437, in 2006-07.

Marina (12-6, 2-1 in the Sunset League) hosts league leader, Los Alamitos, at 7 p.m. Friday.
